A new extension created a new more visible entrance, improved access and upgraded foyer and bar facilities. The electrical services were completely replaced and new efficient ventilation systems provided. A sustainable solution to providing air conditioning was through the installation of an absorption chiller which uses eco-friendly Sheffield District Heating as its heat source. The project was supported by the Arts Council.

Designed for the pupils of this renowned school for gifted young musicians to experience performing to larger audiences in future but in an intimate familiar environment. The building is mechanically ventilated using the rake of the stalls as a fresh air plenum, whose thermal mass moderates temperatures in warmer weather.
